My story

Why addiction psychiatry

For more than 14 years I have worked across the full range of psychiatry, with a special focus on addiction — across inpatient, outpatient and community settings in India and the UAE. My training at IHBAS and AIIMS, New Delhi, and my years at Fortis Hospital showed me how often addiction sits alongside depression, anxiety, psychosis and trauma, and how much better people do when both are treated together.

Today I lead Addiction Services at Sukoon Health. I combine evidence-based medication with therapies such as Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and family therapy, with a particular focus on adolescents, women, LGBTQ+ individuals and healthcare professionals.

Addiction psychiatry is still a rare specialty in India. My aim is to help change how addiction is understood and treated — with science, and with empathy.
